This was my second trip to Amsterdam and there was still so much I wanted to do. Before we went I did a lot of research into different things that I wanted to do and things my boyfriend mentioned in conversations he wanted to do, as it was a surprise for him I had to bring it up very discreetly. I know from the last time I visited, you do need to book some things in advance to avoid waiting in long queues or not being able to do it. I like to make the most of the time when I’m away and do as much as I can to take in the city and culture.
Ann Frank House:
I booked this a month before we went because you just have to. Its such a popular tourist attraction and if you book beforehand you wont have to wait in a huge queue or be disappointed because you can’t get tickets. I have always been interested and wanted to visit the Anne frank House. It was very interesting and eye opening to see what herself and her family went through, I didn’t know much about it before I went and was definitely worth the money but be prepared it is very sad. It wasn’t particularly busy, we were there for just over an hour.
Those Dam Boat Guys:
I don’t think you can go to Amsterdam and not do a boat tour, it’s such a fun way to travel and take it all the beautiful sights. I booked a tour called ‘those dam boat guys’ and it was amazing. You can drink, smoke and eat on the boat, as well as it being quite intimate there was the 4 of us and another 5 People. They tell you all about the history of the city and a few must visit or eat at places. Any questions you have they are happy to answer. Its really worth the money. Thankfully it was sunny for the boat trip, it was torrential rain the day before, so we were lucky.
Prostitution and Sex Museum:
Couldn’t go to Amsterdam and not visit a sex or prostitution museum, so we did both. They are definitely worth a visit while in Amsterdam. It was only a few euros and a good laugh.
Amsterdam Lookout and Swing:
I didn’t even know this was a thing until I saw lots of people uploading onto social media about it and being an Adrenalin junkie, I had to have a go. Amsterdam lookout is basically a tall building that you can walk all the way around the top and take in all the views of Amsterdam, with a swing off the edge. A literal swing on the edge of a building, definitely my kind of thing and it was brilliant. A unique experience indeed. They take photos throughout your visit which are free to download from the website. You can have food and drinks on top of the lookout. You can get a free ferry across from Amsterdam central to the lookout. It was an amazing experience and would 100% recommend.
Amsterdam has the most wonderful zoo, aquarium and planetarium. I don’t know why or how It started but no matter what country me and my boyfriend travel to, we always go to a zoo. This zoo was founded in the 19th Century. It’s a huge zoo and really does take most of the day to go around. We went on a Saturday and they had live music playing until sunset. It really was wonderful. It cost 22 euros each but was worth it. The planetarium was amazing, despite the fact there was a man explaining it all in Dutch, but you could get the gist of it. This was included in the zoo price.
