PAM!

I was lucky enough to go to PAM: Precious About Makeup on a college trip. They are based in London. It is a Pro Makeup Store and they also teach and do demos. They were all about never stop learning and growing.

When we arrived, we went to Ealing Studios where PAM had rented a room for our demos throughout the day. They asked for volunteers for our First demo and no one else seemed to want to so I jumped at the opportunity. Kate Benton did this demo and was showing us how to create bruises for film and how to create the different kinds of bruises. I really enjoyed having this done on me and learn how I can create this. There were lots of tips and tricks throughout this demo and insight into the makeup industry.

Our second demo was done by Shauna Harrison and she brought her son in to do the demo on. She turned him into a Viking. She shows us how to basically make someone look dirty without making it look fake, using different products and layering it. She also showed us how to lay on facial hair which looks very difficult. The look came together with litter accessories and a hair piece. It was really interesting, and I enjoyed watching the process of Shauna turn her son into a Viking.

The next demo was all about face and body paint by the amazingly talented Mona Turnbull. She created a skull and showed us different ways to create body paint. She made it look so easy creating this incredible look, it was so impressive. She did half the face by hand and the other using an Airbrush. It was really interesting seeing the difference, I hadn’t seen one used before. She was funny and engaging throughout the demo.

Our final demo was by Victoria Lee, all about covering tattoos. She talked all about her past and the volunteering she has done throughout her career. She volunteered in a hospital to help people with physical body issues that she could help them learn to cover, such as birth marks on the face or scars, to make them feel more comfortable in their own skin. For the demo she showed us how to cover a tattoo and told some stories about her careers. One of which was she had to cover a full arm and leg tattoos for an underwater photo shoot and the challenges that she overcome.

From these demos I feel like there is so much that we still need to learn before we step into the makeup industry. They asked if we had any questions but there was so much information given to us throughout the day, we didn’t even know what to ask. So many different products that we need for our kits eventually.

Just before we went home we went to the PAM store, so we could have a look around and purchase anything we wanted. They had some really amazing stuff but it was so expensive for the pro palette, which obviously I would love to have, maybe next time.
