City Break in Madrid!

I do love a city break, so decided to book one for my boyfriend’s birthday. I wanted to go somewhere that had lots to do, nice weather and good food. So, I decided on Madrid. The week before we went they had a crazy heat wave with highs of 40 degrees, thankfully it cooled down a little before we went.

We stayed in the Axel Hotel and we loved it. It’s very quirky and a great location. The staff were lovely and helpful throughout our entire stay. The room was spacious and clean. We slept really well throughout the entire stay, the doors and windows were really thick, so you couldn’t hear a sound. There is a rooftop bar, with a pool and a beautiful view of Madrid. It’s worth every penny and I would defiantly recommend staying here if you visit Madrid.

Travel Pass:

We decided to get a metro pass for 5 days which was 27 euros. This allowed up to travel all over Madrid on the metro, bus, train and get from and to the airport. I feel like we got to see a lot more having this pass and do everything we wanted to.

We did a lot of sightseeing and enjoyed all Madrid had to offer. We visited Royal Palace of Madrid, Parque del Buen Retiro, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Temple of Debod, Market of San Miguel, Puerta de Alcala, Palacio de Cristal, El Rastro flee market, Zoo and Aquarium. At Parque del Buen Retiro park we went on boat which was so much fun.

Ghost Tour:

My boyfriend wanted to do a Ghost Tour while we were there, for his birthday and he booked one a week before we went. The website was in English, but the confirmation email came in Spanish. We didn’t think much of it at the time. We met them at 8pm to begin the tour where we were told it was a Spanish speaking tour. We didn’t even think about this when we booked it. We gave it go and went to the first two locations but we didn’t have a clue what was going on so we went for a drink instead. So, do be aware that google auto translates website, be careful when booking tours. Luckily it was only 7 euros each so wasn’t that bad.

I would defiantly go back to Madrid for a city break, we had such a good time.
